tweaking the website a bit over the next few weeks.
ive decided to consolidate the physical & digital stores into one place. so now when you click on store, youll see the option of either buying the physical version or the digital version. please note that physical & digital purchases need to be made separately. mostly because physical purchases require the addition of shipping and digital purchases generate their own automatic download link....

the other main change im working on is for the autumn records releases page.
there will be a splash page with all of the autumn records releases covers and then clicking on a cover will take you to a separate page for that particular release (for more info / sound samples / and to purchase physical or digital). so now every autumn records release will have its own dedicated web page. ill be working on this change soon, stay tuned for an update.....

a couple of new releases just rolled in....

1) my new cassette for ekhein is called 'schumann resonances'. 2 long and deep max/msp sine wave synthesis drone pieces based on the resonant frequencies of the earth's atmosphere. similar conceptually to my 'primes' cd. go to the store and get a copy now!

2) jason anderson (of gift tapes & draft) curated an incredible benefit compilation for japan of new music called 'pacific support' with tracks by rene hell, carl calm, matt carlson, flower man, the north sea, panabrite, temporal marauder, make a new memory, golden retriever, pulse emitter, keith fullerton whitman, & brother raven! i contributed a new modular synth / computer piece called 'MUISEC'. go to the store and get a copy now! i only have a few of these here in stock.

and speaking of more tapes....my goldtimers cassette 'states (2)' should be coming in the next week or two. and my cassauna cassette 'states (1)' should hopefully be coming out in june or july. these tapes are the beginning of a series of works for modular synthesizer. im currently working on the 3rd volume which will be released on draft later on.....

new greg davis music out into the world....

first, my new solo cassette, 'eyebright', has been released on jeff witscher's excellent agents of chaos label.
it features 2 live recordings. side 1 was recorded on tour last august on the west coast with modular synth and voice (zen texts).
side 2 was recorded last fall in montreal and its the first (and only?) live version of full spectrum.

second, i made a track for 'casiotone compilation 2' on the japanese ao to ao label. its a cool 3" cd with lots of short tracks all made on casio keyboards. i put together a cut up skronked piece using circuit bent casio sk-1 sounds.

and last but not least, i contributed a zen mantra/prayer, 'sho sai myo kichijo dharani', for the massively incredible 'benefit for the recovery of japan' compilation released by thrill jockey and antiopic. i mastered the whole thing and its an outstanding compilation for a good cause. 64 tracks for $15, you cant beat that and all of the money goes to Civic Force to help the recovery efforts. buy the compilation here!

Attention Patterns is a 2 LP set featuring new and archival compositions by Pauline Oliveros, Eliane Radigue, Yoshi Wada and Sun Circle, as well as a 48 page booklet containing interviews with the composers and related texts. This release brings together composers with shared affinities for long, slowly unfolding durations and unconventional, harmonic approaches to tuning. Each has contributed a full LP side to the compilation. Edition of 600.

Pauline Oliveros’ “Horse Sings from Cloud (Encore)” is a live performance from 1977 that finds her at her most distilled, performing alone with her justly tuned accordion and voice. Eliane Radigue’s electronic work “Biogenesis,” from 1973, uses her ARP synthesizer and recordings of human heartbeats as its main constituents and is the only piece included on the LPs that has been previously released. Sound artist and instrument builder, Yoshi Wada, appears with “Reed Modulations,” a new work for harmonium, audio generators and bagpipe, made in collaboration with his son, Tashi Wada. Greg Davis and Zach Wallace, better known as Sun Circle, have contributed “For Yoshi Wada,” an ecstatic and fitting tribute with its oddly tuned free reed drones and percussion.

The accompanying booklet includes several of Oliveros’ “Sonic Meditations”—verbal scores that formed the basis for her concept of “Deep Listening”—and interviews with Radigue, Wada, and Sun Circle, as well as an in-depth article on collaborating with Radigue by cellist Charles Curtis. Attention Patterns was compiled by Che Chen (whose other outings as anthologist have included the no longer extant, O Sirhan, O Sirhan, a zine that counted Henry Flynt, Bruce McClure, Sir Richard Bishop, Sublime Frequencies, Jessica Rylan, Animal Collective, Deerhoof, Jorge Boehringer and others among it’s featured) and is a co-release between his new imprint, Black Pollen Press, and Important Records. Two LPs, 48 Page Booklet, Letter-pressed Sleeves.

here is an excerpt from the introduction of the book written by chris:

"Everything in this book is a coincidence. Each collection of pitches, each “Pattern” is gifted with double meaning, with double rightness. These are visual patterns of dots (drawn where a finger frets a string to make a pitch) on the grid formed by strings (vertical) and frets (horizontal). What constitutes a “Pattern” is more easily seen than said. Children with no musical training can see them. Some are simple symmetry and some are more playful. These are visual patterns but they are also something more. The pitches generated by these patterns make up scales conventionally used for improvisation; they are scales but the pitches are scattered differently than usual.

Scales traditionally ascend and descend neatly from one pitch to the next. Different octaves of the same scale have the same pitches in the same order. Nonmusical Patterns have stretches of conventional stepwise motion, but they are also full of strange leaps. They generally span two octaves plus some (the range of a guitar “position”, where the hand stays roughly in the same area), but the two octaves are different from each other. Certain pitches may appear more than once while others happen only in one of the octaves. Gather these pitches together on paper into a single octave and put them in order and you have the “composite scale”. Like in a composite sketch, disparate characteristics are brought together in order to identify. The composite scale tells you all the pitches that are present in the Pattern, but the Pattern is more than just that scale, it’s that weird way of playing that scale....."

it is john clyde-evans' 'go gracious kiki change'. it is a noisy shifting nest of fried loops, sizzling tones, off kilter rhythms, punctuations with some repeated vocal phrases for good measure. in the same vein as john's previous solo work, this release sees the introduction of vocals & almost stuttering hip-hop sampler type of rhythms. denser and noisier but maybe more grooving in a weird way. its been a few months. had a couple great tours. solo tour in japan followed by a sun circle western tour.
settling back in vermont for the winter now.

it features 2 live recordings - one from the on land festival back in september, and another from toronto back in 2008.

im back from japan (THANK YOU JAPAN!) and back to lots of music work.

im excited to announce a new release on autumn records.
it is a split 7" with 1 song each from fellow vermont brothers kurt and chris weisman called 'over the shadow's door'. it also features lovely artwork by their sister emma. go to the releases page for more info and to hear some soundclips. you can order a physical copy of the 7" on the order page (beautiful pink and blue colored vinyl!) or grab a digital copy on the digital downloads page. get it while its hot!

im happy to announce a limited release on autumn records of my new album of songs with chris weisman entitled 'northern songs'. we will mostly be selling it on our upcoming tour in june with james blackshaw (stay tuned for tour dates soon!). but i thought id also put it up for sale only on the autumn website and our myspace page for now. its limited to 100 copies (featuring drawings by ryan storm) so when they are gone they are gone. we are still hoping that it will get a proper release at some point in the future. so if you'd like to check it out, go over to the order page and get one now before they disappear.

autumn leaves series

just wanted to let you know that we will be discontinuing production of the leaves series cdrs soon.
ive been making these special cdrs to order since leaf001 came out in 2003 and with the new changes with autumn records, i figured it was time to move on and put this series to rest. it was a great series of field recordings / environmental improvisations and i am grateful and thankful to all of the artists involved for submitting amazing work for the series over the past 5 years or so.

so! order physical copies of the cdr while you can! if youve wanted a particular disc in the series, now is the time to get it.
i have plans to make a DVDr release of mp3s of all 28 cds available, maybe do an edition of 100 or so of those.
look for that in the future after the next batch of new autumn records releases.

hi friends,
things have been busy around here. tons of new projects going on. lots of shows, etc etc.

first off, you may have noticed a new autumn records logo up in the corner over there. i figured it was time for a new logo, new design. i scanned in a maple leaf that i had around the house from the fall. and slapped the classic autumn records type on it.

the main reason for a new logo design is that im going to start releasing a few more things on autumn records now. ive been wanting to gear up the label again. there are a bunch of cool things in the pipeline.
(AR006) there will be a tour only cdr edition of my new album with chris weisman 'northern songs'. we are playing our first show here in burlington on may 8th with akron/family. and we might be doing a tour with james blackshaw in june (stay tuned for details on that). so we will be selling it there for now. we are still looking for a label to release the album proper.
(AR007) i have compiled a collection of my favorite songs by chris weisman. chris is an amazing songwriter / guitarist / all around creative guy from brattleboro VT. he has tons and tons of songs that not many people have heard. i am hoping that this collection will change that a little bit. think syd barrett / robyn hitchcock / the beatles / keith jarrett / roky erickson / daniel johnston / gilberto gil / steely dan in a new age blender and you get a little idea of what chris is up to.
(AR008) 'primes' - this will be a cd of my experiments with prime number just intonation drone spaces. made with max/msp, sine tones and some pedals. these pieces are explorations of alternate tuning zones. in line with some of my favorite pieces by warren burt.

also, there are a ton of great shows coming through burlington VT. its nice to know that after 4 years of booking shows here that people are starting consider burlington as a tour stop. shows have always gone pretty well and people seem to have a nice time here. go over to the burlington shows page to check out whats going on, and get in touch if you want to play here sometime.

happy new year! 2009!
zach and i had an excellent sun circle tour with bird show in december, thanks to all of you that came out to the shows and helped out and put us up. it was a blast.
we have copies of the debut SUN CIRCLE lp available here now, it is a reissue of our very ltd. edition cdr on lichen records back in january 2007. the LP is a co-release between lichen and autumn records. go to the order page and get yourself a copy now!
im hoping to do more vinyl releases on autumn records in the near-ish future. stay tuned!

also wanted to mention that a christmas holiday compilation cd came out recently with a track of mine on it. its called 'last winter we didn't sing' on the thor's rubber hammer label. i recorded a version of silent night based on the simon & garfunkel arrangement and updated for today's claustrophobic 24-hour news cycle. i have a few copies for sale on the order page if youd like to check it out.

in other news, ive finished my next solo record for kranky. it is called 'mutually arising' and it consists of 3 long form gradual synthesizer drone pieces. look for that hopefully spring / summertime.

ive also been hard at work and super super excited about a new project with fellow vermonter / songwriter, chris weisman. chris has been sending me songs of his and i have been doing my thing with them. its coming together nicely and its turning out magnificent! there will be a cd release hopefully sometime this summer or so. cant wait for you all to hear these songs....thats about it for now. hi all,
just wanted to let you know that i got copies of my new cd with steven hess called 'thirty thirty' on the wonderful presto!? label from italy. this disc contains a recording of a show that steve and i played back on june 4th, 2005 at 3030 in chicago, illinois. it was a release show for our longbox recordings cd 'decisions' so this live set works in a similar way as that disc except this is a more flowing and long form type of piece. but the only sound sources were steve's drum set and a little bit of misc. percussion all processed in realtime by myself via max/msp laptop action...im really happy with the way this cd turned out. get yourself a copy on the order page now.

had a really great little tour with Megafaun on the east coast. got into some deep synth drones in some different spaces. if you havent seen or heard Megafaun, check them out when they come to your town. 3 great guys making sweet music. thanks to all the folks that came out to the recent shows. this summer should be pretty mellow as far as shows go, hoping to work on new music and enjoy the summer. im going to be playing with my pals in Oak for an upcoming silver mt. zion show in burlington in couple weeks.

hi friends, its been months since i updated this thing. not a whole lot going on around here, been working for my man obama and doing a bit of mastering work. but a few things to report as musical news.

i have copies of the tour cdr 'midway' that i was selling back on the akron/family - megafaun - gd epic tour 2007. you can order yourself a copy here now. its a cdr of 2 longer live drone pieces. one synth based one. and one with joe grimm - khaen, computer, violin, vocals, bells, etc....i have limited quantities so get it while its still around.

i also have a few copies of the akron/family/megafaun/greg davis 'odyssey of the mind' tour cd available too. the cd has jams we all did together plus a couple re-recordings of akron/family classic tunes. very rare and very awesome. get it now on the order page! i might be able to source more of these from seth-o......

in new release news, there are a few things coming up....
march 25th - the official debut Sun Circle release on important records. a split LP with Eleh. sun circle track is a warm monolithic static block of string drone. sure to sound great on vinyl. ill have copies for sale here as soon as i get em.

april 8th - the third volume of the imaginational anthem series on tompkins square records. i have a solo guitar -> harps, vocals, field recordings kinda thing on there. nice to have that coming out finally. i should get a few copies of it here to sell.

hey folks, its been awhile since a proper news update.
first off, we are excited to announce that all of the leaves series discs are now available to purchase digitally as 320kbps mp3s over at the amazing new Other Music digital store. we hope that some of you who are interested in the series will go check that out and support what other music is doing. also look for some new leaves series releases in the next few months.

in other news, ive just been busy here in burlington setting up shows and doing mastering work and whatnot. i just finished recording and mixing a great new band from tivoli / bard college NY called The Ghost Shirt. look for that disc somewhere at the end of the summer. in Sun Circle news, zach and i are working on a couple of split LP's, one will be a split with Eleh on important records and the other is a split with joseph grimm / wind-up bird on music fellowship. we are excited about these records and zach and i are trying to figure out how to record new material and perhaps do a little west coast tour in the fall.

im going over to bordeaux, france in november to play a festival dedicated to the music of brian wilson. ill be sharing a bill with christian fennesz. im excited about that. im hoping to play more shows in europe around that time for a couple of weeks. so if youd like to set up a show for me in your town, please email me.

and finally, check out the new issue of Signal to Noise magazine. there is a large feature on yours truly written by my pal casey rea. the article turned out nice and gets in depth about my ideas on sound and music and other topics. plus there are a few sweet full page pinups for your walls. hahah!

happy new year everyone! let us make this year full of deep peace and good vibrations!

getting 2007 off to a nice start, got a few things to announce.
first off, im very excited about my new collaborative project with zach wallace. our duo project is known as SUN CIRCLE. zach has been one of my best friends since 2000 and we've finally started getting serious about making some music together and it has been a pure joy so far. we have a myspace page here. our debut self-titled cdr is now available on zach's home imprint, lichen records. you can get it on my order page here or over at the myspace page. take your pick. 2 long form pieces. 1 blistering static organ / voice drone & 1 refreshing crystalline bells wash. zach and i are working on a full length album as well. look for that sometime in 2007.

sun circle will be touring the east coast of the US during the first couple weeks of february. we will be touring with joseph grimm / wind-up bird. its gonna be a great little tour. i will have the confirmed tour dates up on this page shortly. some of the dates are already up on the myspace page. check it out. come out to a show and say hello.

lawrence english's excellent room40 label has just released a really nice compilation called 'on isolation'. it features recordings meditating on the theme of isolation by stephen vitiello, steinbruchel, david toop, dale lloyd, richard chartier, for barry ray, scanner, jeph jerman, sebastien roux, zane trow, janek schaeffer, ben owen, richard francis and nest and ben frost. i have a piece on there which is a field recording of 'near silence' that i made late at night during our stay at the riwalla farm during the australian tour last july. get yourself a copy on the order page now.

and finally, work is coming along slowly on my new solo album 'joysongs'. it seems the more i work on it, the more i want to work on it. hopefully itll shape up over the next couple months.

just back from NYC for the erstquake 3 festival. had a nice time. lots of music. ben owen has just released '6x20' 2cdr on his label winds measure recordings. its a collection of recordings that jeph jerman, albert casais and i did through the mail. the first cd is three 20 minute pieces where we were each playing the same sound source. and the second cd is three 20 minute pieces where we were free to choose any sound source. all the resulting recordings were sent to me and i mixed the record together into its final form. ben owen did an amazing job with the packaging and artwork. letter press and print on beautiful heavy paper. also includes 2 color postcards which have composite photos that i made from photos by jeph, al and i. i only have a few copies for sale, so go to the order page and get yours now!

finally back in vermont at home. had an amazing trip to australia and new zealand with jeph jerman. played some really great shows and saw tons of sights. it was a whirlwind of activity that really wore me out. but well worth it. thanks to lawrence for all that he did, the LA7 folks, and everyone else that came out to the shows down there or helped us out in one way or another. it was one of the better tours ive done. im going to post some photos from the trip to my blog soon.

my disc with jeph called 'ku' has been released on the room40 label. it should be filtering its way out to distributors and whatnot very soon. i will have a bunch of copies for sale very soon on my site. check back to order yourself one.

also my split 7" with of (loren chasse) should be released any day now on ache records. i will have a bunch of copies of that as well. look for that soon too. it turned out really great.

and while you are keeping an eye out, look for a few new leaves series discs soon. one from jen boyd which is a collection of contact mic'ed trees. and another from matthew mulane which is some nice recorded environments in ohio. there are others on deck as well. probably including a live set of jeph and i from our recent tour.

august is make music month. i hope to continue work on my next solo album. ive got a few songs done already but still a long way to go. im also working on a record with ben vida / bird show. good progress is being made on that. its gonna be a good one. other little projects and tracks under way as well.

august is also the eat local vermont challenge. we are only eating foods grown within 100 miles of burlington. its going well so far. a challenge but a nice discipline and a good way to make you aware of where your food comes from and how far foods have to travel to make it to your plate. we have a little blog with friends documenting the month here. local foods might be the future way.

and check the live calendar. im playing a sprinkling of shows here and there over the next couple months. should be fun...

just back from a nice tour of europe with sebastien roux. the shows were really nice and we had a great time. thanks to everyone that came out to listen to us and all the kind folks that hosted us in the different cities. there may be a cdr document of one of our sets on the german, ahornfelder label in the near future. stay tuned. also, check out my blog for a sampling of some nice photos from the tour.

now that im back, im putting the finishing touches on the room40 cd with jeph jerman. using the various improvisations that jeph and i have recorded over the past few years, im assembling and layering them together into the final cd. look for the cd to be out in late june / july. this is all setting up jeph and i's tour of australia and new zealand in late june into july. ive posted the dates i have so far on the live page. jeph and i are taking part in the big liquid architecture 7 festival in several cities in australia and then doing a trio tour of new zealand with lawrence english. im really looking forward to this tour. playing with jeph every night will certainly be a joy and itll be nice to play some quieter, acoustic, improvised music and put the laptop aside for awhile. my ears need to be refreshed a bit.

also, 2 more festival dates in the US have been added to the live page. ill be playing with jeph at the erstquake festival in NYC in late september. and in november, i will be playing at the brainwashed 10th anniversary, brainwaves festival in arlington MA. and i might be playing a festival up in montreal in early september. you can always find the latest info on the live page.

and a new leaves series cdr is in the works by jen boyd. its a lovely collection of contact mic'ed various trees in california. look for that soon.

ache records of vancouver has released a nice new compilation called 'project bicycle'. the entire compilation is made from the some samples of bicyle sounds that everyone was given to make into a piece of music. i have an exclusive track on the comp called 'sagres (v.6)' which consists of me listening to (and binaurally recording) processed bike samples while riding my bike through the intervale in burlington VT. there are also tracks by aelters, secret mommy, tu m, wobbly, jason forrest and more.

first off, im playing this friday in burlington at narthex with nest material and hammer and saw. should be a fun night if i figure out what to play.
in march and april, im presenting a series of 3 concerts at the firehosue gallery in burlington. i will be reading 3 different text pieces by john cage. and the other half of the concerts will be filled by local new england musicians.
in may, im playing 3 shows in the area opening for the books. always nice to play with them, get your tickets now.
and in mid may, i head over to europe for 2 weeks worth of shows with sebastien roux.
in july / august, im heading back to australia and new zealand to play some duo (and solo) shows with jeph jerman.

long time gone

hey folks,
well its been a long time since the last update. the holidays were spent in arizona. got pretty sick for a bit. but managed to do some recording with jeph jerman as usual. we have a nice collection of sounds and source material now. im going to be using all of these sounds to construct a full length album for the australian room40 label. and if all goes as planned, jeph and i will be heading to australia and new zealand to play some shows and things. the new year started with the west coast tour with bird show and sebastien roux. it was a really wonderful tour. driving up by the grand canyon and passing through utah (driving through zion nat'l park at dusk is magical and scary!) and idaho was a new experience for me. all the shows were nice. really great music throughout. and good vibes for the whole tour. i think my more recent live shows and tours have been getting into a deeper live music performance experience for me. i think its partially because im relying less on the laptop these days (although seb and i were taking it to next level as far as laptop only sets go). it feels good. we each did a session on dublab. those should be online for streaming and podcast pretty soon. itll give you the full flavor of what we were up to. look for that soon. thanks to everyone that came out to our shows, it means alot to us. and thanks to all the great folks we met and stayed with along the way. now its back home. getting ready for my trip to iceland. im playing 2 small solo shows on top of the main show with tinna thorsteinsdottir. im super super excited. ive been preparing the music and visuals for the shows. looks like pancakes for mattie records based in dallas is going to be putting out a 12" record of a couple tracks from paquet surprise. and some live excerpts or remixes on the b-side. stay tuned for that! the trio cd with al casais and jeph jerman is done. ben owen will be putting out the 2nd disc of it on his brand new label. and i will be putting out the first disc of it as part of the leaves series. there will be several new leaves series titles coming at you in late february or so. march 2nd - 4th, i will be taking part in the OFFF festival which is happening in mexico city. my good pal, KFW, is playing too. so it should be a good time all around. in may, i might be opening up for a few of the books shows on their east coast jaunt. im excited to play with them again and hang out again. then most likely 10 days or so worth of shows with sebastien in europe in mid may. all culminating in a big show in belgium with no neck blues band. all the while there is much music to be worked on: room40 cd, melektronikk acoustic e.p., ache records split 7" with loren chasse, the suchness album (gd & bv), my next solo record for kranky, davis daniell korber 3"cd for antiopic, kelley & davis cdr for gameboy, etc etc etc. the list never gets any shorter. much joyous music work ahead. ok my head is about to explode. until next time.....peace and love!

my new cd with sebastien roux, 'paquet surprise' is released to the universe today on carpark records. seb and i are very proud of this record and super excited to share it with you all. personally, it is one of my favorite records ive ever made. its one of the first records that has successfully synthesized and brought together all of my interests and inspirations in sound & music across all genres. we hope you like it!

got some big news for you. ive been approved to upload all of my recorded live sets to archive.org. ive just started this massive project. all of my recorded shows will be archived there and available as free downloads in FLAC format. this is very exciting as i have close to 200 live shows recorded. itll be great to have them all in one place and available to all to listen to and experience the greg davis live show. most all of the sets i will be uploading will be improvisations and variations on material from my albums. sometimes wholly improvised sets that will never be repeated. i will be updating the live page with links to the shows as i upload them. this project will take a long time so be patient. keep checking the greg davis live show index for more added shows and updates. enjoy the music and tell your friends about it. please share the music with friends and family but by all means do not sell it! all of these recordings are a gift to all of you who support me and buy my records and come to my shows. stay tuned for more information about this project. also, get in touch if there is a specific show youd like to see on the archive and i can move that to the top of the queue. take care.

hey folks, keith and i are featured in the april-june issue #7 of perth australia based zine 'first past the post' . there are separate in depth interviews with both of us. check out their website for more details and info. there is a review of 'gather / scatter' 7" in the june issue of the wire in the size matters column. apparently there is a picture of yours truly in there as well although i have yet to find a copy of the magazine here in burlington. i recently had a bad hard drive crash here and lost some of the masters for the leaves series. so i apologize for the delays in getting some orders out to you people. luckily jeph jerman had backups of the masters that i lost, so they should be replaced this week. thanks for your patience.

couple of quick things. im going to chicago for the week. ill be playing a show at 3030 on saturday night with steven hess. this is a record release show for our new cd 'decisions' which will be released in june. ill have copies of it for sale next week. also i just got a few copies of the mika sasaki & friends 'memories of sasaki-san' remix cd from powershovel audio run by yuichiro fujimoto. i made a nice track using my punch card music box. lots of good folks on it like: alejandra and aeron, asuna, chris roseneau, harald sack zeigler, flim, steve roden, etc.....ill put copies up for sale next week. and the greg davis & sebastien roux cd 'paquet surprise' is finally finished as of yesterday i put the finishing touches on the last track. now its on to mastering and artwork. it should be released in october or november on carpark. we are very excited about this one! and last but not least, i have started another blog for music writing and musings about sound and whatnot. its called 'afters', there is a link to it at the left here. look for this to eventually replace the favorites page. thats it for now. fare well.
